What our parents and players say...
My two daughters (aged 8 and 10) both play for Magic and they have both fallen in love with netball over the past 6 months. The coaches Kiki and Izi run a super professional yet fun club. The girls come away knowledgeable yet enthused and never want to miss a session. They have both gained an inner confidence on the court and one of them has said they want to be a netball player when they grow up! It's a fantastic club, run by fantastic coaches!
My daughter Inca hadn't played much netball before joining the U9 squad and has learnt so much with Kiki & Izi in just a couple of months. She loves her training sessions, they play lots of skills games and it’s the highlight of her week!
It's so great for my daughter to have a fun set of friends outside of school and her usual friendship group. They all have netball in common and they all pull together in everything they do! Thanks Kiki and Izi for setting up the best club ever!!
Both of my girls love being Magic Girls. Great training, plenty of match play and lots of new friends. It's like being part of a big family!
We are one big family and everyone is so supportive of each other. Our coaches push us to be the absolute best we can be. We have so much fun on and off the court.
I love Magic because they really get behind us state school players. We don't get as much training as some of the others but they give us skills and fitness sessions every week to make sure everyone's the same!
Poppy has gained so much since joining Magic- much improved netball skills, confidence and so many new, fantastic friends. We are both so happy she is part of the Magic family. So pleased we found you.
Thank you for making my daughter so welcome at your club. I love the fact the coaches are so dedicated and focussed- it gives the girls so much encouragement!
The training environment is like nothing I have seen before. The girls thrive in it. Their skills are nurtured whilst also challenged. They learn not only netball skills but life skills such as discipline, determination and resilience. But most importantly the girls want to do well for each other- exactly what being in a team is all about!
Magic took a chance on a little girl who loved netball, our Oonagh. The coaches directed her fitness and coached her play. And now through hard work, commitment and sheer determination she's been proudly voted the '2018 Magic Player of the Year'. Incredible progress.
I love being at Magic because it pushes me to be the best and give my all. There is great team work and great friends.
I love Magic as the girls are lovely and they have made me feel so welcome. I love the socials that are organised too!
Our daughter has really thrived since joining Magic Netball this Spring. The quality of coaching provided by Kiki and Izi is excellent and the emphasis placed upon fitness and performance by the club has really helped her to focus on her development as a defensive player. There is a great sense of commitment and team spirit, which our daughter is genuinely excited and proud to be part of!
Amelia had the most amazing and warmest welcome from Kiki and co when she joined the team. The girls have an unbelievable bond and the dynamics are the best I've seen as a parent.
Amélie loves feeling a part of such a special club, both for the netball and the social aspect. They recently went to London to watch a professional Fast 5 Netball Tournament which Amélie absolutely loved. The coaches are inspiring, they are passionate about the game and give up so much of their spare time for Magic it’s amazing!
Magic is such a positive environment for teamwork and development on & off the court, led by enthusiastic coaches who really care about each player.
Playing netball has made us stronger, mentally, physically and emotionally. The word 'Magic' says it all.
At Magic we work really hard to be the best we can but we play hard and have fun too!
WHY MAGIC NETBALL CLUB?
If you are looking for a club to take your child's game play to the next level then Magic is the club for you. Our progress and results in our first years demonstrate the elite coaching the players are provided with. Our players are making huge improvements week on week- this is due to their dedication and hard work, but also due to the specific coaching they receive. Our club is all about performing- this does not always mean winning (although that is great too!), but instead it's about putting out our best individual performances to create strong team performance. The players improve week on week due to the fact they use and apply their training into match play situations. We are also delighted to have achieved ENGLAND NETBALL BRONZE CAPS AWARD in our first year. CAPS is England Netball's version of Sport England Club Mark, and clubs who achieve accreditation are demonstrating best practice across all areas: coaching and delivery, safeguarding, development of players and volunteers, and club progression planning.
WHERE AND WHEN IS TRAINING?
From September - March training moves indoors on weekday evenings at Warden Park Academy, Oathall Community College or Hassocks Sports Centre.
From April - July training is outdoors at The Burgess Hill Academy, The Woodside Haywards Heath, or St Pauls Academy Burgess Hill.
Saturdays or Sundays- Regional Leagues/ Friendly Games
HOW MUCH IS TRAINING AND MATCHES?
Players will be asked to pay training fees at the start of each term. This works out to approx £5/6 each week for older players and £4/5 for younger players. This weekly fee includes netball specific fitness sessions each week (players are expected to attend 1 per week, but can attend up to 3 for this price). Matches and tournaments will be paid for on a pay to play basis. Not all players will be selected to play in each match and therefore the fairest way is to charge these fees on the day of the match. Fees will be set and explained in our introduction pack.
ARE SQUADS SET FOR THE YEAR?
Players who are successful at trials will keep their place in their squad for the year (until the next year's trials). However if players are not abiding by our club code of contact or not attending training and matches to a high enough standard (minimum 80% attendance and 80% availability) then coaches will speak with players about their commitment levels and may be asked to give up their place. Magic Netball offers open trials for new players throughout the year. Girls will be invited to trial at a training session with the squad members. A trial may take place over 1 or 2 sessions.
HOW DOES MATCH SELECTION WORK?
For each match/ tournament, selection will be based on performance, attitude to training and work ethic. There is no minimum amount of game play for any player in the squad. Team selections are open to change every week.
WHAT EXPERIENCE DO THE COACHES HAVE?
All coaches have achieved their UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification. Kiki, Izi and Amelia have gained many years experience coaching a range of ages. Within the past few years they have coached in the Netball South Regional and Development Leagues. Kiki has also been the Sussex County Satellite Coach for the 18-19 and 19-20 season and therefore brings knowledge of the England Netball pathway back to our girls at Magic. Alongside Magic, in the 20-21 season, both Izi and Kiki are coaching for Superleague Franchise London Pulse in their U17 Hubs. This will continue to further our coaching at Magic in how we support our players to excel in the England Pathway. Supporting girls in playing competitive netball is both Izi and Kiki's passion!
DO I NEED TO BUY KIT?
All players from Year 6 (U11) upwards are required to have a training top, Magic Netball dress, jumper and tracksuit bottoms. Players in Year 4 or 5 are only required to have the training top, socks and bow. There is also optional extra kit such as a training vests, shorts, leggings, under-layers, sliders and a rucksack. Please see the merchandise section of our website (members section)!
IS THERE A SOCIAL SIDE OFF THE COURT?
OF COURSE! Kiki and Izi believe in the balance of working hard and having fun! To ensure the girls work as a cohesive team they need to bond on and off the court. Therefore netball socials are key! Whether it is going for a meal, karaoke, watching an international netball match, laser quest or an adventure day there will be plenty of fun to be had by all (including the coaches!) Work hard play hard really is the motto.
